FAQ
General
Q: Where are you based?
Our UK warehouse is set in the beautiful countryside of Cheshire, where we manage our UK distribution and order fulfilment. We also have a UK team based nationally ready to help you with your local needs. In addition to this, we have corporate offices in Kansas, USA and distribution centres in Canada & Australia.
Q: How long have you been in business?
We have been manufacturing wooden climbing frames and swing sets for over 35 years. In 2007 we merged with another large swing set manufacturer, Adventure play sets of Amarillo, TX and this made us the largest play set manufacturer in the US. Since then, we have been expanding our product range and innovating in categories such as Greenhouses and Outdoor Entertainment. We also expanded internationally by launching in Canada in 2021, in the UK in 2023 and in Australia in 2024.
Q: Where can I buy your products?
Our products are available through several UK retailers including Costco, Amazon, Wayfair, B&Q and The Range. We also sell our products direct to the consumer through our own website where you can get direct support on products, assembly, warranty and much more!
Q: I want to sell your products. Can I be a dealer?
We have programs for resellers, both stores and online. Please use the Contact Us form to send us your inquiry.
Q: Your products are made from wood. Do you protect the environment?
Yes, we do, environmental preservation is very important to us. First, we participate in the Sustainable Forest program which means that four saplings are planted for each tree removed. Also, we use a water-based treatment on our wood as we prepare it for boxing. The treatment looks great, it is environment-friendly and is non-toxic. A number of our products are already FSC certified and very soon our entire product range will be manufactured from certified FSC timber.
Q: Where are your products made?
While some of our products are made in the US, most are made in China under contract to us and to our specifications with strict controls over quality control and working conditions for employees.
Assembly
Q: Can I use sand or mulch for the base of the play set?
Sand, mulch, and other soft materials are great for the ground under the play set area. However, the play set should NOT rest on these materials. You MUST make sure the ground is level and firm. You must also secure the set with stakes provided. Once the play set is securely resting on these solid footings, then you can surround it with your favorite soft material.
Q: How much area is required for the play set?
We recommend a 6 foot perimeter around the set and above it for maximum protection against interference with other garden items.
Q: How do I get started assembling the set?
We STRONGLY recommend taking out all the parts and laying them on the ground or garage floor before you assemble anything. Match the parts with the parts list in the manual and mark them. This will also help you identify any parts that might be missing. Also, read through your owner’s manual from beginning to end to understand the flow of assembly, this will save you confusion and time. Once everything is laid out, then begin assembling step by step from the manual.
Q: I can't find my manual. How can I get another one?
We publish all the manuals on the website on their respective product pages and in our manuals library. When you click on the link for manual you'll see it open and then you have the chance to save it to your computer or print it. Our manuals are published in Adobe Acrobat format. If you do not have Acrobat you can download it FREE from Adobe's site: www.adobe.com.
Q: Can I use a service to assemble my play set?
Many customers contract a service to assemble their set. However, please make sure you inventory all parts first, before the contractor begins any work! If any parts are missing, go to our Support page and follow the prompts to order the parts. We'll send them to you free of charge. We are not responsible for any service fees for any reason.
Q: Do you recommend an assembly service?
All our products come complete with a detailed, step by step assembly guide and we also recommend using the free BILT app to guide you along the process. We will be adding assembly services to our product offerings very soon if you choose not to build the product yourself.
Q: The swing beam end beam is not straight up and down.
This is normal. The end of the swing beam does not make a 90* angle with the ground or the swing beam itself.
Returns and Refunds
Q: Do you charge a restocking fee?
Yes. We charge a 15% restocking fee. This is because play sets are heavy, large, and cost a lot to ship back and forth. We want you to be satisfied, but we do not want you to purchase without being absolutely sure this is what you want.
Q: What is your return policy?
Please read our return policy carefully (available here) and contact us regarding your return. If you have changed your mind about your purchase and decide to return your goods, we will be happy to help you.
Q: What if I bought my products from [your favorite retailer]?
Please contact the retailer for return information and policies. We are always here to help you if you require more information or product support.
Q: How do I return something?
If you purchased directly through our Backyard Discovery website, please contact us with the reason for return and we will be able to help you. If you have purchased from one of our trusted retailers, please check their return policy. You can find our return policy here.
